Q&A – My Life as a Travel Blogger

I regularly receive questions on Instagram about how it is a Travel Blogger life, if I can make money as a blogger, how I afford to travel to so many places and if it's possible to live from blogging, so I've decided to create this post to answer some of the most common questions! Even my parents are always asking and still don't understand how it turns into a career and part of my everyday life! I will tell a little bit of what happened to me, everything about my own experiences and how you can also make it!

How did you decide to become a travel blogger?

I'm a Digital guru really passionate about design, writing, photography and I've always been an internet geek 🤓. I also have a lot of personal passions as well as travel, beauty and wellness. So, when I decided to live abroad and travel the world in 2015, I started to create content on my Instagram and blogging about my new adventures.

Where is your favourite place you’ve been to?

Aitutaki, Cook Islands. It's a heaven on Earth. Check out my blog post and videos about this incredible place. I never thought in my dreams to be there one day.

Do you like Australia?

I love it. I moved here in 2015 and I still feels like a tourist. Australia is a very young and happy country. It's amazing to travel around so many beautiful places and uncountable beaches. It's safe, organised and it has an excellent quality of life for its residents. I'm happy living here and I wish to be based here for the next years and travel more and more.

You said you quit your job to live abroad and travel the world, what was your job before?

I was a Communication Specialist at WABCO Brazil, a global leader automotive company. I worked there for 10 years and it was my job's life. I started as a trainee and I became a specialist during this time. I learned so many important things for my career and life there, I did so many wonderful friends and I really miss my time working at WABCO! But there, I also learned the importance to travel and speak another languages, so I decided to make a move and spend some time living abroad and travelling.

How long did you start travel blogging?

Hey Cassi Travel was officially born on January of 2017. However I started off Instagram page, this blog came later on. I find it hard to believe that Hey Cassi Travel already celebrated its second blog anniversary!

How often do you travel?

Currently, I'm a part time digital nomad, which means I don't live my life in a road or from one airport to another constantly but I do live my life travelling around every month. I go on trips (of any length, be it a weekend in a beautiful hotel or 15 days in Bali) and then come back home, in Sydney, Australia.

Which apps do you use to edit your photos?

People are always asking about this. I receive so many DMs about apps, how to edit and create content. I think it's a good idea to another post but to be very specific I love to use Lightroom which I've created my own presets. You can use on your laptop or mobile. Also love to use Mextures to create textures on my photos. To create stories, currently I love the Unfold app.

How do you make money as a blogger?

First, for these who have doubts yet, It's totally possible to make money from blogging. We know so many bloggers and influencers living their lives creating content! I'm not there yet, still working on it as I'm part time traveler but I do make some money from my blog. The potential sources of income for a blogger include brand promotion on Instagram and social media, side bar ads on the blog, own product sales and then freelance , for writing, social media or consulting.

How can you afford to travel so much?

There's no secret. Priorities, financial planning and good deals. I'm always thinking every year where I wish to travel, reviewing all the time my bucket list and also looking every single day for good deals on flights and hotels. I also use to get amazing opportunities to create content and exchange for stays. In Australia, I have all notifications on to receive offers from sites as IKnowThePilot.

How do you find brands to work with?

Sometimes I reach out to brands as an influencer and sometimes they reach out to me through Instagram or emails. If I reach out, I only try brands I liked or thinking you guys will like to try as well. I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to work with so many great cool brands and companies doing absolute amazing jobs! I love to support brands that I trust with outstanding services!

How much time do you spend working a day?

As I said, I'm an internet geek 🤓 and also very focused lady. I love what I do and for me blogging it's still a hobby, so I don't mind to work every day in something that I really feel inspired and love. I'm committed as a part time blogger nowadays, which means I work half week on my own and part time supporting another company with the same job. I can say that I work more than you think a travel blogger does.

What do you use to edit your videos?

I started using iMovie but months ago I switched for Adobe Premiere Pro.

What camera do you use?

This is a really funny thing. When you become a travel blogger your life travelling also changes forever. We always carry a backpack with cameras, drone, GoPro, mobiles, chargers, cables and it's a challenge to pack light during the tours. So here's my tools:

Do you travel solo?

Sometimes, but I'm always trying to manage my agenda with my husband and artist @BrunoMota

Where will be your next trip?

Fiji next month :)

Who takes your beautiful photos?

This wonderful soul @BrunoMota.

Where are you from?

Brazil.

How old are you?

36 years old.

How do you find cheap flights for your trips?

I use to find on skyscanner, google flights and directly on the airlines website. I always get notifications and try to book my trips during the low season.

Where do you book your accommodation?

I hope that answers some questions you might have about my life as a travel blogger! If it doesn’t, just comment this post below, I’ll be happy to answer it! :)
